Fed: Labor frontbench meeting set for stoush on asylum
CANBERRA, Feb 5 AAP - Divisions within Labor over the federal government's hardlineasylum-seeker policy looks set to erupt today when shadow cabinet meets in country Victoria.
Labor frontbencher Carmen Lawrence said she was ashamed of the ALP's position and believeddetaining asylum seekers was morally indefensible.
But her views clash with those of frontbench colleagues Mark Latham and Laurie Ferguson,who said asylum seekers released into the community would disappear.
Opposition Leader Simon Crean played down divisions, but they are likely to featurein shadow cabinet's deliberations …
