Fed: Latham says Howard owes public full explanation

Opposition leader MARK LATHAM says the Prime Minister owes the public an explanation
over claims he reappointed broadcasting watchdog DAVID FLINT on the orders of radio announcer
ALLAN JONES.

JOHN HOWARD issued a brief statement on the claim today, but Mr LATHAM says the statement
is not enough to lift the cloud of suspicion from the government.

Mr LATHAM says the allegations go to the heart of the integrity of the government and
Mr HOWARD owes it to the public to have all the facts available for public scrutiny.

The Opposition leader says that if proved, the matter would be a serious breach of
the ministerial code of conduct and more serious issues could arise.

Broadcaster JOHN LAWS made the claim today on his talkback program.

Mr JONES has denied the allegation.
